Unlikely Place For OGs To Find First Victory Of New AJHL Season

Last season the Grizzlys failed to record a victory at the Max Bell Centre (0-2-1), but on Tuesday, September 15th they were able to outscore the Canucks 6-5 in overtime to secure the first win of the 2015-2016 campaign. The last time they won there was also in overtime on January 8th of 2014 when Landon Kletke helped them triumph 5-4.

As heard on 96.5 CKFM, the Grizzlys first road game of the year saw them defeat the Canucks 6-5 in OT in Calgary.

17 year old defenceman James Miller from Spruce Grove was the overtime hero. He liked the way the Grizzlys kept going after the Canucks forced overtime by battling back from 4-1 and 5-3 deficits.

Miller had 2 goals and 11 points in 40 games during his rookie year in the AJHL. This is the first time in his hockey career he has scored in overtime.

16 year old forward Tyr Thompson from Sherwood Park netted his first Alberta Junior Hockey League goal. 20 year old off-season trade acquisition Wyatt Noskey potted his first regular season goal for the Black & Gold. 19 year old forward James Gaume from Red Deer also lit the lamp for the first time this year - it was his second goal in 11 career games for Olds. 16 year old veteran Sean Richards sniped one for the first time this year and it was the first time this season the Grizzlys have clicked on the power play.

20 year old forward Landon Kletke also had a PPG for the OGs. It was the second game in a row the Trochu product has dented the twine and it continued his ridiculous string of success at the Max Bell Centre. Kletke now has 11 career goals versus Calgary and 10 of those tallies have come at the MBC. Of his 37 career AJHL goals 27% have been scored in 9 road games against the Canucks.

17 year old netminder Kurtis Chapman from Airdrie made 34 saves to earn his first AJHL victory in net. The shots in the game were even at 39. The Black & Gold were 2 for 7 on the power play, while the Canucks had similar success going 2 for 7 with the man advantage.

The Grizzlys are now 1 and 1 this season. They visit Camrose on Friday, September 18th before returning to the SportsComplex on Sunday afternoon at 2pm (September 20th). Sunday's game can be heard live on 96.5 CKFM.
