It was a cool and soggy afternoon at Normie Kwong Park, but the Olds High School Spartans still managed to defeat SWC 22-6.
Connor Jorgensen threw for three touchdowns as the Spartans won their high school football season opener on Friday, September 4th in Olds.
The grade 12 quarterback connected on scoring strikes with Zach Newstaeder (15 yards), Aiden Filipchuk (10 yards) and Baylen Unger (90 yards).
Jorgensen says, despite the rainy weather, they were able to move the ball versus the Bulldogs.
He adds, the Spartans first game of the year allowed the team to find out what some of their new players could do.
Olds High School built up a 22-0 lead thanks to the three offensive touchdowns, plus a second quarter safety recorded when Thomas Rosebargo tackled a Bulldog in the end zone. Nathan Mullholland made two out of three extra points for the Spartans.
SWC broke up the shutout bid for Olds at the 6:02 mark of the fourth quarter with a 27 yard rushing TD followed by a missed PAT.
The second football game of the year for OHS is coming up on Saturday, September 12th at NKP at 4 o'clock versus Centennial High.
