Landon Gross - a 6 foot 3, 200 pound winger born in 1996 - is being added to the Olds Grizzlys roster ahead of the start of the new AJHL season.
The Olds Grizzlys have acquired a 20 year forward to help boost their offense for the upcoming Alberta Junior Hockey League season.
To get winger Landon Gross (1996-04-28) along with future considerations, Olds sent 18 year old defenceman Nicholas Sutter (1997-12-30) and futures to the SJHL's Estevan Bruins.
The Grizzlys Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations, Dana Lattery, says Gross is from Pincher Creek and wanted to finish his junior career closer to home plus he will bring offensive capabilities with him to Olds.
Lattery says Gross has the same first name of the player they hope he can help replace - graduating forward Landon Kletke from Trochu.
Kletke's skates are big ones to fill after he played 217 career regular season games with Olds. He set career highs in goals with 21 and points with 53 in 49 games during his 20 year old year for the Grizzlys.
Gross split last season between the Kindersley Klippers and the Estevan Bruins in the SJHL recording a total of 21 goals and 39 points in 44 games. With the Klippers he had a career high 5 goals and 2 assists in a game last November 15th versus Humbolt.
Gross played a full season in the AJHL with the Grand Prairie Storm in 2013-2014 before heading to Kindersley the next year. With the Storm he posted 7 goals and 15 points in 51 games.
Lattery says by signing a number of young defencemen this summer it allowed him to make a deal which gives up a solid blueliner in exchange for an impact forward. Sutter is a product of Spruce Grove and in 47 career games for Olds he registered 4 goals 14 points and 64 penalty minutes.
The local junior 'A' club will hold its rookie camp starting on August 26th and the regular season begins on Friday, September 16th when Olds travels to Calgary to play the Canucks. The Grizzlys home opener is a rematch with the Canucks on Saturday, September 17th.
