More recognition for the 2015-2016 top scoring Grizzlys duo, the annual alumni game and NCAA success for OG hockey alumni were all part of a week of good news stories for the AJHL program in Olds.
The Alberta Junior Hockey League accolades keep pouring in for a pair of high scoring Olds Grizzlys forwards.
21 year old centre Wyatt Noskey from High Prairie lead the AJHL in points with 83 and he has been named to the South All-League team.
18 year old winger Chase Olsen from Olds finished second behind Noskey with 81 points and he has made the South All-Rookie team.
Meanwhile, Head Coach Dana Lattery says the Grizzlys annual alumni game held last Saturday was a great opportunity for nearly 40 former players to return to the ice at the SportsComplex.
He adds, the Grizzlys will hold their annual awards night on Friday, April 1st at the Olds Evergreen Centre.
It starts at 5:30 with dinner at 6:30. Tickets are $30 dollars each and they are available at the team office.
Two former members of the Olds Grizzlys are celebrating a Division III NCAA championship.
Forward BJ Duffin from Red Deer and goaltender Jesse Gordichuk from Penticton, B.C. joined the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers this season.
After finishing as the runners-up in each of the past two title games, the Pointers broke through and won the D-3 championship thanks to a 5-1 victory over St. Norbert on Saturday, March 26th in Lake Placid, New York.
Duffin and Gordichuk are the first former Olds Grizzlys to win an NCAA championship, since defenceman Wade Bergman from Calgary helped the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs win a Division I national title in 2011.
Former Olds Grizzly Matt Marcinew from Calgary and the University of Denver Pioneers have advanced to the NCAA frozen four in Tampa Bay.
Denver defeated Ferris State 6-3 during regional play on Sunday, March 27th
The Pioneers will play North Dakota in Tampa Bay on April 7th in the U-S college hockey semi-finals.
The other semi-final will see Boston College face off with Quinnipiac.
