Local Boxer Adds Another Medal At Golden Gloves Event In Stony Plain

14 year old boxer Anthony Walsh from Olds has had a brilliant start to 2016.

Olds High School student Anthony Walsh added a Golden Gloves victory to his impressive boxing resume last month.
The grade nine student was able to win his division by beating a similar aged 66 kilogram class opponent in Stony Plain.
Earlier this year, Walsh won a gold medal in the 68 kilogram class at the Alberta Winter Games in Medicine Hat.
To win both medals Walsh only had to face one opponent each time. He loves sparring and hopes to face more live competition when he participates in another Boxing Alberta event in April or May of this year. Overall he says his record is 5 and 4 with 2 wins by TKO.
His dad Lindsay runs the Olds Boxing Club. Anthony explains what he thinks his strengths are and what skills he hopes to improve on.
The 14 yea old encourages anyone ages 10 and up who is interested in boxing - or just wants to try a different way to stay fit - to check out the weekly classes offered at the Olds Boxing Club.
The classes run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 until 8:30pm. Visit www.oldsboxingclub.ca for more information.
