The Olds Grizzlys will have a hometown player as their Captain for the 2016-2017 season.
Chase Olsen from Olds will follow up a sensational rookie year, which saw him finish second in the Alberta Junior Hockey League's scoring race, by putting the Captain's 'C' on his jersey.
With their Head Coach re-signed for another two years, the row the boat motto, and the opportunity to follow in the skates of past hometown Captains of the Olds Grizzlys like Spencer Dorowicz, Olsen is looking forward to the future.
Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations, Dana Lattery, says the Captaincy is a huge responsibility as well as an honour and he is excited to be working with Chase.
Lattery discusses what it means to have a player like Olsen as the Captain of his hometown junior hockey team.
The 1997 born Olsen will turn 19 on July 2nd. He was named to the AJHL's All-Rookie team in 2015-2016 after posting 32 goals, 81 points and 14 penalty minutes in 58 games. Olsen trailed only his 21 year old linemate Wyatt Noskey from High Prairie. Noskeywon the league's scoring title last season with 83 points in 60 games.
Olsen explains what characteristics his coach believes he possesses which will help him as he takes over as Captain of the Black & Gold.
As a rookie, Olsen says last year's Captain Jack Goranson from Red Deer and Assistant Captain Landon Kletke from Trochu helped him learn a lot about leadership.
