4 D-men, 2 Forwards & 1 Goalie Signed By OGs On June 1st

The local Alberta Junior Hockey League club has added seven players including six in the 18 year old range. Olds Grizzlys Head Coach Dana Lattery hopes they can provide a little more poise for his team, particularly on defence, after playing a couple years of midget AAA hockey.

Six 1998 born players and one year 2000 born defenceman make up the Signing Day crop of rookies who will join the Olds Grizzlys for the 2016-2017 AJHL season.

That group includes a pair of Calgary triple 'A' players who suited up with the Grizzlys for a handful of games last year - defenceman Tom Mealey from the Flames and forward James Orban from the Buffaloes.

Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations Dana Lattery says the Orban family has a strong past with the Grizzlys and they are pleased to sign James.

Orban played 7 regular season and 3 playoff games with the Grizzlys last season.

Brad Girard - who Lattery described as highly skilled - comes from Slave Lake and the Leduc Midget AAA program. He was the only other forward added on June 1st by Olds.

Lattery says the Grizzlys have also brought in on the blueline Cole McIsaac - a big, mean defender.

Hayden Struik from Edmonton - who has size and poise - plus 16 year old Kabe Bleay from Calgary will also bolster the defence corps for the Grizzlys. Bleay had a strong showing at spring camp in Olds.

Rounding out the signings for the OGs is 6' 4' goaltender Andrew Henderson from Maple Ridge, B.C. He played for the Vancouver Northeast Chiefs in the British Columbia Major Midget League last year.
