Sylvan Lake RCMP Respond To Possible Oil Field Theft In Eckville

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (AISRT) has taken carriage of the investigation after the possible theft of a battery from an oil field site in Eckville led to an confrontation between the male suspect and an RCMP member.

Eckville, Alberta ~ Sylvan Lake RCMP are investigating the possible theft of a battery from an oil field site in Eckville.
The site is located on 54th Avenue in Eckville and it happened on Saturday, April 6th at about 8:15am.
Police arrived on scene and located a male suspect asleep in a truck. A sledgehammer and large canister of bear spray was observed on the front seat. 
An RCMP member placed a spike belt out and waited for backup. A confrontation occurred between the male suspect and the member, with the member discharging his service pistol.
The male suspect was transported to hospital by EMS with non life threatening injuries.
The RCMP member was not injured.
