The Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society's goal is to start construction on a shelter within the next year. Currently, they are not operating a physical facility. President of the Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society Joe Carignan says the funds from the Royal LePage Wildrose Suitcase Party on Friday, May 3rd will go towards the project.
$23,500 was collected during the Royal LePage Wildrose Suitcase Party Fundraiser on Friday, May 3rd.
Joe Carignan, President of the Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society, says the funds will go towards building a shelter for Mountain View County located in Olds.
He adds, they hope to start construction within the next year.
They sold 135 tickets for the event which included supper, and live & silent auctions.
The mystery destination getaway that weekend was a trip to the Pomeroy Kananaskis Lodge.
The next suitcase party is planned for May 8th, 2020.
Olds firefighter Noel D'Arcy is going to try to get his name into the Guiness World Record book on Sunday, August 18th.
D'Arcy will also be raising money for the Terry Fox Foundation when he puts on full firefighting gear - including an air tank and breathing through the apparatus - in order to run in the Servus Edmonton Marathon.

This is the 7th year for Alberta Open Farm Days. The event runs on Saturday, August 18th and Sunday, August 19th. It includes tours of farms from around the province and a chance to learn from producers.
A change in leadership is on the horizon for the town of Didsbury. Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Harold Northcott has accepted the CAO position with the County of Vermilion River and will start his new job there in early September. Northcott has tendered his resignation to the town of Didsbury and Mayor Rhonda Hunter hopes to see a new interim CAO in place by the end of August or early next month.
The AgSmart expo began on Tuesday, August 13th. The two-day show at Olds College started with a number demonstrations and a session with Robert Saik as he launched his book "Food 5.0: How We Feed The Future".
