Red Deer-Mountain View MP Pleased China Will Resume Importing Canadian Beef & Pork

Canadian pork and beef exports to China will resume after being suspended in June amid tensions between the two countries.

Beef & pork exports are resuming with China following an announcement by the prime minister this week.

According to the Canadian Meat Council, Canada was able to convince Chinese officials that products are safe and properly labelled

Red Deer-Mountain View MP Earl Dreeshen says its good that we were finally able to get back to this stage.

He notes that it will take time to get things moving again.

Dreeshen adds, the new Ambassador to China has helped move this trade barrier along.

China is facing a shortage of pork as a result of an African swine fever outbreak that hit farms last year.

In September, the Canadian Meat Council said the suspension had cost Canadian farmers almost 100-million-dollars.
