A 27 year old man is facing charges following a dangerous driving incident in the town of Sundre on November 29th.
Sundre, Alberta ~ On Friday, November 29th at approximately 9:00pm Sundre RCMP detachment members were called to a collision in front of a business in the town of Sundre.
A male driver was witnessed driving his pickup truck northbound on Centre Street and going too fast where he lost control and crashed into the concrete flowerbed in front of the Bargain Browser store.
The male driver fled the scene in his damaged pickup truck heading north on Centre street with a witness in close pursuit. The witness followed the fleeing driver to a residence just north of the scene where he fled from his vehicle into a residence.
This key information was passed onto police. Sundre RCMP attended the residence where the male hid inside and refused to open the door. A warrant was obtained to enter the home and the male was taken into custody without incident.
"This incident could have been horrible. People were out and taking advantage of local shopping for Sundown in Sundre. The truck nearly struck two pedestrians prior to crashing into the flowerbed and obliterating the Bargain Browser's metal horse sculpture. I firmly believe had it not been for those obstacles, the truck would have smashed into the building. My apologies to those that had to experience such stupidity but I thank you for providing the Sundre detachment members the information needed to hold this man accountable for his senseless decisions." - Corporal Joe Mandel.
27 year old Colton William Gateman is charged with several offences:
S. 129(a)CC - Obstruction
S. 320.13(1)CC - Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
S. 320.15(a)CC - Refuse to Provide a Breath Sample
S. 91(1)CC x 2 - Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
S. 69(1)(a)TSA - Fail to Remain at a Scene of a Collision
Gateman is set to appear in Didsbury Provincial court on January 6th, 2020.
