Plans For New OC Residence Discussed At Public Meeting

Olds College's Frank Grisdale Hall Has Exceeded Its Life Expectancy As A Student Housing Complex. Construction Is Scheduled To Begin In December Or Early In 2014 On A New Series Of Dorm Rooms.

The general public got a chance to see the designs for the proposed new residence at Olds College at a meeting last night (November 20th).

In early 2015 the "Olds College Centennial Village" is set to open its doors and welcome 450 students to new living quarters. This residence will have a single private room with an individual washroom and shower for each student, a double size bed, a large closet, study space, along with social spaces throughout the building.

Vice President of Student and Support Services Kathy Kimpton says there is no set cost for the building yet, but it will be cost effective for the college.

Johnathan Steel with the IBI Architect Group in Calgary says they made sure they talked to students so they could design a room with their high priority items.

Olds College Housing Co., SHUNDA Construction, IBI Architects, and the financer Mountain View Credit Union are all involved in the building process. The current Frank Grisdale residence will no longer be used for student housing.  A committee will be discussing the new purpose of the building, but it will still remain on campus.

The new residence will be built behind the Olds Aquatic Centre.
