The Canadian government is preparing to repeal a restrictive election law in order to allow the earlier reporting of results.
Section 329 of the Canada Elections Act prohibits the transmission of election results to the public in an area where the polling stations are still open.
Wildrose MP Blake Richards calls the law "outdated", especially when so many are embracing social media.

The law was originally put in place to prevent voters in the west from being influenced by voting results in the east.
Richards says there is no time frame for the legislation, but he expects it to be put in place in the near future, especially before the next election.
