Olds College President Stuart Cullum is one of 20 representatives recently appointed to the Alberta government's Skills for Jobs Task Force. The committee includes representatives from industry, labour, community agencies, as well as education leaders from both K-12 and post-secondary.
The Skills for Jobs Task Force was recently appointed by the Alberta government to find ways to strengthen apprenticeship education and skilled trades opportunities to meet labour demands.
Olds College President Stuart Cullum is on the task force.
That being said, Cullum also knows how important this discussion is for Olds College.
He explains what the provincial government wants the committee to do.
The Skills for Jobs Task Force will submit a preliminary report to Alberta's Advanced Education minister by the summer of 2020. A full public report will follow later next year.
Cullum talks about what the impact of the report could be for Olds College.
He adds, the Werklund School of Agriculture Technology at Olds College is very relevant to what this task force is about.
Applications opened for the new ag tech diploma and post-diploma certificate at the start of this month. Cullum encourages potential Olds College students to apply soon because it will fill up quickly. The first intake of students is set for the fall of 2020.
