Local Ice Dancers Heading To International Competition In New York

The pair of local ice dancers who represented Alberta during the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer in February will be heading to New York to compete next month. 17 year old Kobi Chant from Olds and 14 year old Savanna Martel from Airdrie were selected to compete in Lake Placid at the North American Challenge.

A pair of local ice dancers will be heading to New York at the end of July.

Kobi Chant from Olds and his partner Savanna Martel from Airdrie will be among 5 Canadian teams and 5 teams from the U.S. who will be competing there.

Chant says they will be going to Lake Placid for the North American Challenge.

He notes the week before New York, they will be in Ontario for the Minto Competition.

From there, Chant adds, the pair along with their parents and the other team from Alberta will head to the states.

The competition takes place July 30th-August 1st.

Kobi says their new routine is 30 seconds longer than the previous one as it is a total of 3 minutes and 10 seconds.

Kobi and Savanna won a bronze medal at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer in the Pre-Novice Ice Dance event.

They have now moved up to the Novice category.
