Great Weekend For The Grizzlys

The Olds Grizzlys (7-15-1) improved 7-4-0 in home games this season by posting back to back victories over teams in the top half of the Alberta Junior Hockey League's South Division. On Friday, November 10th the Grizzlys beat the third place Drumheller Dragons (12-10-1) by the score of 5-3. Then on Saturday, November 11th Olds outlasted the first place Okotoks Oilers (17-2-1) 3-2 in a shootout.

Olds beat Drumheller 5-3 on Friday, November 10th on 96.5 CKFM. It was the first win for the Grizzlys since a 4-2 triumph over Grande Prairie in Carstairs on October 13th and it allowed them to bust out of a 9 game AJHL losing streak.
 
The victory was achieved in impressive fashion as Olds battled back from deficitis of 1 to nothing, 2 to 1 and 3 to 2.
 
Forward Jared Power ('98) from Calgary scored two power play goals in the win for the Grizzlys.
 

Forward Josh Borynec ('98) from Carvel netted a shorthanded goal and an assist in his first game for the Black & Gold since arriving from Drayton Valley after a three team AJHL trade.

Jared Power would then go on to score the winning goal in the third round of the shootout on Saturday, November 11th as the Olds Grizzlys stunned the first place team in the AJHL's South Division.

The Black & Gold rallied from a 2 to nothing first period deficit to get to overtime thanks to a pair of second period goals. Power scored at even strength and forward Quentin Greenwood ('97) from Red Deer tallied on a 4 on 3 power play. The Grizzlys would eventually outlast the Okotoks Oilers 3-2 in a shootout.
 
Olds was also able to earn a 5-3 comeback victory over Drumheller on Friday night.
 
Grizzlys Head Coach Adam Redmond says it was rewarding to see his team show such great resiliency to win against two good opponents this weekend.
 

Goaltender Andrew Henderson ('98) from Maple Ridge, B.C. stopped 26 of 29 shots against the Dragons and 26 of 28 shots versus the Oilers.

The Grizzlys are on now on a 2 game winning streak as they get set to head out on a 3 game road swing. It starts on Tuesday, November 14th with a visit to Camrose to play the Kodiaks (6-10-5).

Friday's game was also the first for new Drumheller Dragons Head Coach Kevin Hasselberg in Olds.

Hasselberg was the Grizzlys Head Coach from 2005-2010 where he posted a 157-140-7 AJHL regular season record and made a trip to the league semi-finals in 2008-2009.
