Grain Growers Of Canada Welcome Appointment Of New Ambassador To China

Canada and China have named their respective ambassadors to their countries, at a time when diplomatic relations between the two are at an all time low. Business consultant Dominic Barton was appointed as Canada's Ambassador to China.

Canada has a new Ambassador to China.

Business consultant Dominic Barton was appointed to the position this week and the Grain Growers of Canada welcomes the appointment.

GGC President Jeff Nielsen says Barton is highly respected and involved in agriculture.

Nielsen who farms in Olds says, there hasn't been much talk over the summer about international trade.

He says it is key to start the discussion around trade issues.

Nielsen says Barton is highly respected.

Barton will also work towards persuading Beijing to release imprisoned Canadians Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor.

Meanwhile, China named their respective ambassador to the country with Cong Peiwu taking on the role.
