Didsbury RCMP Notes

An auto thief had a difficult time finding a way out of the town of Carstairs
recently.

Mounties say a local man witnessed a male exiting his truck in the Carstairs
Food Store parking lot last Wednesday. According to police, culprit had punched the truck's ignition before taking
off following a struggle with the owner.

The thief then reportedly stole another vehicle, but he only made it about a half a block down Main Street before the rim & tire fell off.

RCMP say the suspect eventually got away by acquiring a green 1998 Ford F-150
with license plate DKF 399.

Corporal Warren Wright with the Didsbury RCMP detachment says they have a
suspect in mind they are actively searching for.

Didsbury RCMP seized a large sum of cash from a vehicle following a recent
traffic stop.

A black 2005 Mitsubishi Gallant was pulled over for tinted windows on June
7th. Police say when they approached a substantial marijuana smell was present coming from the vehicle.

Following a search the 29 year old male driver from Calgary was arrested for
possession of the proceeds of crime. However, no marijuana was located in the vehicle. No charges were laid but the
money was seized.

Didsbury RCMP say their investigation is on-going.

MP For Wildrose Issues Statement In Response To CRTC Fine

The local MP for Wildrose says there will be 'no further comment' from his
office in response to a $14,000 fine handed down against him by the CRTC as part
of the Robocall scandal.

In a statement released following the CRTC announcement Blake Richards says
'his office engaged a service provider to survey his constituents on their views
on legislation being considered in Parliament'.

He claims 'it was his understanding that the provider was well experienced
with these types of surveys, and as such, it was reasonable to assume the
provider would ensure compliance with all applicable regulations'.

According to Richards 'the CRTC believes that the provider should have
included his name, mailing address, and contact number at the beginning of the
call'.

He goes on to say 'his only intent was to conduct a legitimate, accurate,
and nonpartisan survey of his constituents' views'.

Richads says he has 'fully and promptly cooperated with the CRTC's review of
the matter, and he intends to work with the CRTC to ensure he has a compliance
program in place going forward'.

Richards was one of 2 MPs in Canada, along with Quebec Liberal Marc Garneau
to be fined by Canada's telecom regulator as part of a sweeping attack on
improper automated phone calls.

Didsbury RCMP Notes

Didsbury RCMP are investigating a pair of recent incidents in Carstairs.

A 1996 GMC Yukon was damaged when crooks attempted to pry the door open
sometime overnight on May 14th. No entry was gained to the Yukon which was
parked along the 600 block of 12th avenue.

Then overnight on May 15th along the West Highland Crecent also in Carstairs,
criminals stole tools out of a toolbox in the back of a truck. Police estimate
$300-400 dollars worth of wrenches, socket sets, jumper cables and a jack was
taken.

Sergeant Jeff Jacobsen says they've been dealing with a significant 'up tick'
in vehicle rummagings lately. He once again reminds the motorists to lock their
vehicles and remove valuables from them.

Mounties are searching for a flat deck trailer which was stolen from a storage
facility in Didsbury.

Police were told it went missing at somepoint in the last year. It is a 2002
Ramp Master which had the licence plate S44-582.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of this flat deck trailer is
asked to contact the Didsbury RCMP detachment.

Olds College Delivers 'Future Proofing' Budget For 2013-2014

Olds College's Vice President of Academic & Research says it was very
difficult to wrestle through the 2013-2014 budget priorities and make sure
resources were aligned with them.

According to Dr. Jason Dewling OC's administration prepared for next year's
budget by leaving several positions unfilled in anticipation of the 9.3%
reduction in Alberta government funding which was announced in March.

{audio_http://mm.gmstatic.net/62/473337.mp3}

Dewling adds the document
makes decisions today to protect the college from the future changes which are
coming to post-secondary education.

{audio_http://mm.gmstatic.net/62/508823.mp3}

He explains how the 2013-2014 budget will remain 'student access-focused'.

{audio_http://mm.gmstatic.net/62/683114.mp3}

Corportate partnerships with Pomeroy Inn & Suites as well as
Chartwells will come to fruition over the next year, according to Dewling.

{audio_http://mm.gmstatic.net/62/492109.mp3}

Dewling says Olds College's operating budget for next year is about 50
million dollars. There will also be approximately $2.4 million worth of capital
expenditures and just under $900,000 in surplus funds, which he says is important to have on hand for reinvestment in captial ventures as well as needs around the campus.
