CESD Trustees Decide To Close Benalto School

With just 21 students currently enrolled, Chinook's Edge School Division has made the difficult decision to close Benalto School.

Benalto School will be closed at the end of this current school year after a recent decision from Chinook's Edge School Division.
According to CESD's Superintendent of Schools, Kurt Sacher, the board made the difficult choice on Wednesday, April 6th following a lengthy review process.
Sacher notes the current 21 students enrolled in kindergarten to grade 6 will transition to a new school next year.
He says there is a financial component to the closure as well.
Sacher adds there is a high level of quality teaching and learning at Benalto, but the challenges of low enrollment affects students and staff on a daily basis.
The most likely outcome is for the students from Benalto School is to relocate them to C.P Blakely Elementary in Sylvan Lake. However, he says that still has to be discussed by the Chinook's Edge board.
Benalto is about 15 kilometers away from Sylvan Lake.
