Central Alberta Trustees Encourage Government To Address Youth Who Are Vaping

The School Board Trustees from the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Zone 4 are pushing for stronger vaping regulations. They say there are significant numbers of youth who are "vaping".

Vaping is becoming an issue among teens, and the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Zone 4 are pushing for stronger vaping regulations.

That is according to ASBA Zone 4 Chair Connie Huelsman. She says their motion, "urges the federal & provincial governments to align restrictions on the consumption, promotion, marketing, and sale of vaping products with those on tobacco products".

Huelsman says the major worry Zone 4 has is the health issues associated with vaping.

Huelsman says it was a common issue for Zone 4 to take this to a provincial level among the 8 boards, even though they are spread out across the province.

She says the resolution will now go to the Fall General Meeting of ASBA in Edmonton where all of Alberta's 61 school boards will vote on it.

If it goes through, it will then become an advocacy issue both provincially and federally.
