  • Didsbury RCMP - Power Outage Caused By Aircraft Striking Power Line

    Didsbury RCMP and the Transportation Safety Board are investigating after an airplane struck a power line on Tuesday, January 17th causing power to be lost in the town of Didsbury.

  • Calgary-Olds Smart Agri-Food Corridor MOU Signing

    According to Calgary Economic Development, the leading investment corridor for agri-food in Canada will be established this week. A special event is planned for 1:30 until 2:30pm on Wednesday, January 17th for Calgary Economic Development and Olds College to sign the memorandum of understanding (MOU) to create the Calgary-Olds Smart Agri-Food Corridor.

    Gene Leonard's rink won the A-event final at the 24th annual Didsbury Farm & Ranch Bonspiel. Leonard defeated Bill Venneman for the victory on Saturday, January 13th.

  • Rosebud Business Park Development Proposed For QE2 & Highway 582 Intersection

    Mountain View County council has heard a presentation regarding the development of the Rosebud Business Park. It is located in the northeast corner of Didsbury overpass at the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 582. A delegation from Magna Engineering Services made a presentation to develop the Rosebud Business Park during the Policies & Priorities committee meeting on Wednesday, January 3rd.

  • Town of Carstairs - 2017 Was A Strong Year For Development

    The 2016 census shows a population of 4,077 residents in Carstairs, but Mayor Colby expects that to be around 4,600 now because of the town's continued growth. He and council are hoping they will hear some good news back from Chinook's Edge School Division to expand the elementary school. As for the 2018 budget, council is in the reviewing process. Colby says they are not looking at any increases at this point and the budget should be finalized shortly.

    The Spruce View Lions 40th Annual Charter Night is on Saturday, January 20th at the Spruce View Community Hall. Treasurer Phil Burkinshaw says special dignitaries from Lions International will be in attendance at the banquet.

  • Agri-Trade Shortened To 3 Day Event

    The Agri-Trade Equipment Exposition will be one day shorter in each of the next two years. Traditionally the show had run from Wednesday through Saturday during the second week of November in Red Deer. However, 71% of Agri-Trade exhibitors were in favour of shortening the show by one day so it will take place in 2018 from Wednesday, November 7th until Friday, November 9th. In 2019 the dates will be from November 6th through the 8th.

    Be aware of your surroundings and stay alert are the reminders from the Alberta Government when it comes to intersection safety. Director of Public Education and Outreach with Alberta Transportation Tom Fowler says using your cell phone at intersections is also a concern. Fowler adds 3 of the top 5 driver errors occur at intersections: improper left turns, committing a stop sign violation and disobeying a traffic signal.

    There are 40 teams signed up for the 24th annual Didsbury Farm and Ranch Bonspiel. Action beings on Monday, January 8th at noon with the finals on Saturday, January 13th at the Didsbury Curling Club.
