  • Mountain View County Councillors Provide Reports From 2018 FCM Conference

    More than 2100 delegates from across the country recently returned from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities 2018 conference. Mountain View County was represented in Halifax, Nova Scotia by several councillors including Division 1's Dwayne Fulton. He believes it is critical for rural municipalities to be well represented at the FCM conference. Fulton adds, rural issues are very similar all across Canada. By having more rural representatives at FCM, he says it raises the profile of their problems as compared to the issues brought to the federal level by urban municipalities.

    A "Free Our Finest" fundraiser is being held June 16-17th at the Olds Walmart. Sheriff Chris Zelko with the Innisfail Integrated Traffic Unit says it is an annual fundraiser for the Alberta Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Alberta.

    About 2000 cyclists will be stopping in Sundre this summer for the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. Sundre's Economic Development Officer Jon Allan says the town is very excited to be the stop for the 2-day 200 kilometer ride. He encourages residents to come and cheer on the riders on August 18th.

Chief Operating Officer Scott Chant says council approved 2nd and 3rd reading on Monday, June 11th. A public hearing was also held, but no residents either for or opposed to the project attended.

  • Inaugural Season For Rogue Racing Club

    The inaugural season for the Rogue Racing Club started back on May 1st. President, Founder and Coach Clint Stevens says their competitive swim club is based out of the Olds Aquatic Centre and they have 12 members between the ages of 8 and 17. Stevens says the goal for their swimmers during the short 12 week season is to make provincials, which take place the third week in August.
